Call for Presentations
57th TEFLIN International Conference
“Revitalizing professionalism in ELT as a response to the globalized world”

Bandung, 1-3 November 2010

The 57th TEFLIN International Conference Committee invites presentation proposals for its 57th conference to be held in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia, on November 1-3, 2010. The official language for the conference, including presentations and submissions, is English.

Content Areas
The conference includes discussions on the following ELT-related areas:

1) Teacher professional development and quality assurance

2) Curriculum, syllabus, and material development

3) Assessment and evaluation

4) Current classroom practices

5) The utilization of ICT

6) Culture, literature, and linguistics

Document Submission Requirements

The deadline for submission of presentation proposals is August 14, 2010. Proposals to be considered for presentation should preferably be short research-based papers, of 750-1,000 words (excluding references), covering the background of the study, in which theoretical bases are included, methodology, findings and conclusions. Non-research papers (argumentative, persuasive, narrative, and descriptive) are also acceptable.

The title should be given at the top of the first page, along with the name of the presenter(s) and their affiliation below the title on the right. Biographical data should not exceed 100 words and should be written on a separate page in the third person. Thirty minutes are allotted for a research paper presentation (including question and answer session), and sixty minutes for a workshop or colloquium. Accepted short papers will be announced on August 31 2010. Participants whose short papers are accepted should submit complete papers not later than 30 September 2010. Complete papers should be of approximately 5000 words, font size 11, Times New Roman, single spaced, with a top and left margin 1.2 inch, bottom and right margin 1 inch, and written in Letters (8,5 x 11 inch) with an abstract with key words and references following APA format. Concurrent Session Presenters

In twenty concurrent sessions, as many as 160 presenters are expected to share their ideas and the results of their research in 30 minutes. Presenters from Indonesia are encouraged to submit the research papers of their presentations to such international journals as ASIA TEFL Journals, ESL Asia Journals, The New English Teachers, Hong Kong Journal of Language Teaching, RELC Journal, and to TEFLIN Journal, the Association’s refereed scholarly journal.

Fees

A registration fee of Rp 825.000 (US$ 83) will be charged for registration made no later than Oct. 7, 2010. Registration fee paid after Oct. 7, 2010 and no later than Oct. 23, 2010 will be charged at Rp 875.000 (US$ 90). The fee covers two lunches, five coffee breaks, annual TEFLIN membership (for Indonesian participants), two volumes of TEFLIN Journals, and seminar kits. Additional Information

Reception. All speakers, presenters, TEFLIN boards, and participants are invited to attend the Tuesday evening reception, to be held at 7:00 p.m. on Nov. 2, free of charge. In addition to an elegant dinner, the reception will feature traditional Indonesian music and dance performances. Please come and meet our distinguished speakers, presenters, founding members, university management, and make new friends.

Getting to Bandung. The Conference will be held in the city of Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. It is located in the southeastern part of Jakarta. Direct flights are available from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. From Jakarta International Airport to Bandung, bus or mini bus shuttle services are available, and take around 3-4 hours.

Getting to the Conference Site. If you stay around Jl. Setiabudhi, a taxi is a convenient option. However, some hotels provide shuttle services from the hotels to the conference site.
