SMA Negeri 1 Welahan has participated on School Climate Challenge 2009. This competition is held by British Council, supported by Pandu Pertiwi, National Geographic Indonesia and ASHOKA.

The committee has sent a confirmation letter about SMANELA participation and will be informed the next agenda via e-mail.

About Chrysty Milliken

Christy Milliken, an English and economics major from Edmond, was awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship, which places students as English teaching assistants in overseas schools to improve foreign students’ English language abilities and knowledge of the U.S.

“I had previous experience in China, which I thought would translate very well into another South Asian country,” she said. “I had a wonderful experience teaching in China and wanted to continue the opportunity. Fulbright is a fabulous avenue to allow me to do this.”
“Oklahoma State University is proud of Christy’s commitment to make a difference in the world,” said OSU President Burns Hargis. “It is vital in today’s world, both economically and politically, that students have an international experience, and OSU’s goal is to help provide 100 percent of our graduates some type of international experience.”

Growing up, Milliken never pictured herself teaching English abroad. “It is an inexplicable fondness for the English language and enthusiasm to teach that led me to foreign avenues.”
Milliken is no stranger to living or traveling overseas. In the summer of 2005, she studied at the Burgundy School of Business in Dijon, France. In the summer of 2006, she studied English at Magdalene College in Cambridge, England. In March 2007, she studied humanities in Spain and Morocco.

Now, Christy is teaching at SMAN 1 Jepara. She will have been in jepara until the end of march 2009.

Title: Fold it up

Language skill : Writing
Duration : 45 minutes

Openning

Prepare a piece of paper and pencil.

Main activity

1. Ask students to write a simple sentence on a piece of paper. it is free topic. example "My house is beautyful". Write the sentence on the top of paper.
2. Give the paper to a student on the left or right (choose one).
3. Ask the students to read the sentence, then ask them to draw a picture about the sentence.
4. Ask the students to fold the top of paper until the sentence is closed with paper. remember, do not close the picture. just the sentence.
5. Pass the paper to the next student on the left.
6. Ask the students to analyze the picture. then ask them to write a sentence about the picture.
7. Ask the students to fold the top of paper until the picture is closed with paper. remember, do not close the sentence. just the picture.
8. Pass the paper to the next student on the left.
9. Ask the students to read the sentence, then ask them to draw a picture about the sentence.
10. Ask the students to fold the top of paper until the sentence is closed with paper. remember, do not close the picture. just the sentence.
11. Do the same activity untill there are 3 pictures on the paper
12. Finally, ask student to open the folding paper, read and discus their work.
13. Students can pass the paper to others.
14. Teacher can read aloud and discust some most intersting work

Berita terbaru dari situs Depdiknas adalah tentang jadwal pasti Ujian Nasional 2009 dan Kisi-kisi UN untuk SMA/MA, SMP/MTs, dan SD. Informasi itu tertuang dalam Peraturan Menteri (Permen) Nomor 77, 78, dan 82.

Pada Permen itu juga dijelaskan, bahwa kriteria kelulusan yang harus dicapai siswa mengalami peningkatan, khususnya untuk nilai rata-rata mata pelajaran. Tahun lalu rata-rata semua mapel UN 5,25 dan tahun ini naik menjadi 5,50.

Selain itu nilai minimal permapelnya masih 4,25. Akan tetapi siswa boleh memiliki 2 mapel nilai 4,00 asalkan nilai rata-rata semua mapelnya mencapai 5,50.
